Fabulous ‘Sharing Toys’ for creative & cooperative play

Sharing toys

Ever had that experience when your little one opens a gift from a well meaning friend or relative, and your heart sinks? Because that new shiny wonderful dumper truck/my little pony/best thing in the world ever is not A Sharing Toy. It may have to be removed for it’s own safety.

When you have twins, other multiples, or children close in age, sharing toys are a necessity for any degree of household peace. But they also foster creative and cooperative play. Qualities every parent dreams of on a Saturday morning.

Here’s a few sharing toys which are much loved in our family:

Sharing toys! Gifts for twins, teaching children to share, encouraging creative play, toys for toddlers to share.

  1. Magna-Tiles*

What’s not to like? Even fun for adults. My only complaint would be that our set comes with only one car piece. This is not the best idea for twin toddlers sharing, for obvious reasons.

2. Connectics Magnetic Play Tiles

These are better value that Magnatiles and come without the fancy extra bits which small people tend to fight over.

3. LEGO Classic Brick Box

Lego is the ultimate sharing toy, but not those individual kits where one little Lego man flies one exquisite Lego helicopter. Instead, get a great big box of general Lego and a few big green Lego boards. Fun for everyone.

4. Playmobil Noah’s Ark Playset

Two by two….. Noah’s Ark lends itself to being a sharing toy! I find Playmobil fairly indestructible and very cute.

5. Cash Register

Toys which involve role-play are great for sharing. Cash registries, kitchens, hospital sets etc. I love this wooden cash registry! And it’s never too early to start learning a bit about financial instruments and retail therapy, right? Oh yes, and adding and subtracting.

6. Miniature Tea Set

Last on my little list is a tea set. I like this one from Small World toys because it is not completely feminine. My sons also love to play cafes, picnics, restaurants and so on. And they definitely all enjoy eating cake.

Happy sharing, everybody!
